Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is this site about?
Share a cab/taxi. Share a ride. Share a chartered bus. Plan a carpool. Heck, share even your bike! You can save money by sharing the cost this way! Plus, you help save the environment by saving fuel as well.
  2. How is my privacy protected?
We will never sell your e-mail address to any third party. Our server keeps logs of activities for statistics analysis and for legal reasons.

Misuse of the system is prevented by the following measures

    1. Your e-mail address is never displayed publicly in any of our pages.
    2. Your e-mail address is never revealed to any member, not even in a member's profile pages.
    3. By incorporating a private messaging system, your e-mail address is never revealed to the sender or receiver.
    4. Your password is stored in a one-way hash. That means, in the unlikely case that the database is compromised, the hacker will not find it easy to decipher your login password.
    5. Before anyone can join a ride, the member will need to approve them.
    6. All database, statistics and logs are stored in a secured password-protected area
We don't use accredition schemes like CaseTrust and BusinessTrust due to the high cost involved:

Furthermore, the site does not involve any online exchanges of money, like credit card or bank transfers.
  3. Is it free?
Yes. We will never charge for the use of this service.
  4. How does it work?
    1. Peter wants to share a taxi with 3 others from Prince Road to George Road. He creates a post.
    2. Mary, in a similar situation, comes into the site and performs a search
    3. She finds Peter's result
    4. Mary sends a request to Peter to join his ride. Peter receives a private message to his inbox and is notified via e-mail by the system.
    5. Peter approves Mary to the ride
    6. Mary is added as a member of the ride and shown in the page
    7. Repeat Steps 2-6 for every new member
    8. When the ride is full, Peter is informed via e-mail so that he doesn't have to check back frequently.
    9. The members can privately discuss the ride in the same page as the ride - under the Ride Members Discussion
  5. What kind of situations does this work out?
Anything that can be split. Be it daily work rides, hiring a private bus to a church, from a bar to home or even the weekly market visits! If you have a suggestion for an additional transport type, please let us know.
  6. How do I search?
At the search page, locate your start point and click to place a green flag. Locate your stop position and click to place a red flag. Click the Search button at the bottom.

    Tips
    1. You can drag the map around. Click and hold your left mouse button. Now move your mouse around and the map will move.
    2. Quickly find a place by entering it in the Find box just below the map
    3. You can move the flags by clicking and holding the left mouse button on the marker and dragging it to the new location
  7. I can't get any search hits?
Create your own! It takes less than a minute to sign up and about 2 minutes to create a post. Besides, you get to become the 'leader' of the group.
  8. I have created the post. Now what?
Wait for people to search and see if they are interested to share with you. You may also want to try to hitch on other rides that follow the same route.
  9. I found a posting that I am interested in. I sent a request to the person. Now what?
Wait for the person to reply back to you. The leader can update the posting to reflect the number of buddies needed.
  10. Can I change my postal code 'from' and 'to' after I created the posting?
No. We did this so as to protect the integrity of the postings. If people easily changed the title, description or from/to postal code, it will be hard to track changes. However, you can add and update the description and number of buddies for that post.
  11. How do I disable the post I just made?
Go to View Listings and disable the post you wish. This will add a disabled warning at the top of the post and will not be shown in search results or in the home page.
  12. How do I change the number of the buddies needed?
At your personal page, click on the Update link for the trip and enter the new number of buddies you want to change to
  13. Can I modify the description of the post I made?
At View Listing, click the update link in the post. This will add the modified description to the post.
  14. Can I link directly to a post from my blog?
Yes - you are more than welcome to.
  15. Future plans?
We are currently listening to feedback and improving the site as we go along.
  16. Who are the maintainers?
Ganesh is the main maintainer. Logo was done by Marc Lee. The name for the site was suggested by Rizam. Testing was done by Wilson Teh and Foon in addition to the names mentioned earlier.
